Querari sharp winning in Rome

Alan Shuback|May 17, 2010

Andreas Wohler, the German trainer who saddled Silvano to win the 2001 Arlington Million, may have another candidate for that race on Aug. 21. Querari, the winner of the 1 1/4-mile, Group 1 Premio President della Repubblica at the Capannelle in Rome on Sunday, is being considered for the world's oldest million-dollar race by the German trainer.

A 4-year-old son of Oasis Dream, Querari rallied to defeat the odds-on Voila Ici by a head at 18.83-1. Bred and owned by Gestut Fahrhof, his best previous effort had been a victory in the 1 1/4-mile, Group 3 Euro-Cup at Frankfurt in September.

Querari won his race in Italy on Sunday on heavy ground and the Euro-Cup on soft ground, but has also won a one-mile listed race at Baden-Baden on good gorund. Wohler also trained Paolini to finish sixth in the 2002 Million and second in the 2003 renewal.
