Queen's Plate will continue to be run in August in 2022

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Woodbine Entertainment has announced that the 163rd running of the $1 million Queen’s Plate, the opening leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, will be run next year on Sunday, Aug. 21, at Woodbine.
North America’s oldest annually run stakes, the Queen’s Plate had been held in late June before pandemic-related lockdowns forced the race to be delayed to September in 2020 and to Aug. 22 this year.
This year’s Queen’s Plate, which was won by New York shipper Safe Conduct, generated the second-highest wagering handle in the race’s history.
“We’re excited about the prospects of another tremendous running of the Queen’s Plate in August 2022,” Woodbine Entertainment CEO Jim Lawson said. “The new date was very successful, as evident by the wagering numbers and the large competitive field that provided a thrilling race from start to finish.
“Welcoming fans to our facility for this year’s Queen’s Plate brought an electric feeling back to Woodbine, and we have our eyes set on producing one of Toronto’s top sporting and social events for the summer of 2022.”
Ticket details for next year’s Queen’s Plate will be released in the coming months.
Woodbine Entertainment has applied to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to run a 133-day meet next year, from Saturday, April 16, to Sunday, Dec. 11.
