Queen's Plate rescheduled for Sept. 12 at Woodbine

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Woodbine Entertainment has announced that the prestigious Queen’s Plate, North America’s oldest annually run stakes, has been scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, at Woodbine.
The $1 million event was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was originally scheduled for June 27.
“The history of the Queen’s Plate is so rich, and the fact that it’s been held every year since the inaugural race in 1860 is remarkable,” Woodbine Entertainment CEO Jim Lawson said. “We are honored to be able to continue this rich history in face of adversity by hosting the race for the 161st consecutive year.”
Two important Queen’s Plate preps, the Plate Trial Stakes and Woodbine Oaks, will both be contested Aug. 15.

The Queen’s Plate will be followed by the second leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, the Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie, on Sept. 29. The lucrative series for Canadian-bred 3-year-olds will conclude with the Breeders’ Stakes later in the fall at Woodbine.
Woodbine’s revised stakes schedule for the pandemic-shortened meet, which begins June 6, is expected to be announced Wednesday.
