Gamble’s Ghost

Ghostzapper – Gambling Girl, by Secret Claim

Queen’s Plate and Woodbine Oaks prospects Gamble’s Ghost and Caren ran one-two in the Grade 3 Selene Stakes on May 15 at Woodbine. In the case of Gamble’s Ghost, she is from a family that has produced outstanding fillies, and classic influences, on both sides of her pedigree.

Ghostzapper, the 2004 Horse of the Year and Breeders’ Cup Classic winner, is known as a sire of outstanding fillies, including Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint winner and champion Judy the Beauty; Grade 1 winners Better Lucky and Molly Morgan; and this year’s Gulfstream Oaks winner, Go Maggie Go, fourth in the Kentucky Oaks in just her fourth career start. Ghostzapper also is the sire of Canadian champions Hunters Bay and Shaman Ghost; the latter won last year’s Queen’s Plate and finished second in the Prince of Wales.

Gamble’s Ghost is one of seven winners from eight starters out of Gambling Girl, who won the La Prevoyante Stakes and placed in four other stakes during her racing career. Her progeny also includes the stakes-placed Purrfect Bluff. Broodmare sire Secret Claim, by Mr. Prospector, is a full brother to prominent stallion Gone West.

Gambling Girl is a half-sister to stakes winner Solarity. It is the extended family of champion and Filly Triple Crown winner Dark Mirage; champions Silent Screen and Bluebird; French Oaks winner Indian Skimmer; and Grade 1 winners Java Gold, Touch of the Blues, Missy’s Mirage, Classy Mirage, Dublin, Timely Writer, and Swagger Jack.
