Sovereign Award champion 2-year-old filly Curlin’s Voyage signaled she is ready to take on the Queen’s Plate with a victory in the Woodbine Oaks last month. The filly is a daughter of an influential American classic sire from one of Canada’s most influential families.
Two-time Horse of the Year Curlin competed with distinction in all three legs of the American Triple Crown in 2007, finishing third in the Kentucky Derby, winning the Preakness Stakes, and finishing second in the Belmont Stakes. He is the sire of 2013 Belmont winner Palace Malice and 2016 Preakness winner Exaggerator, along with four other classic-placed runners. In Canada, his best runners have included 2018 Woodbine Oaks winner Dixie Moon.
Curlin is a son of Grade 1 winner and leading sire Smart Strike, also the sire of 2010 Preakness winner Lookin At Lucky. The late Smart Strike was a half-brother to 1991 Canadian Triple Crown winner and champion Dance Smartly.
Curlin’s Voyage is out of the winning Stormy Atlantic mare Atlantic Voyage, also the dam of stakes-placed Brass Compass. Atlantic Voyage is a full sister to Grade 1 winner Stormello and to Grade 2 winner My Best Brother, as well as a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Gala Award and stakes winner Cherry Lodge.
