Queen's Plate pedigree profile: Avie's Flatter
Avie’s Flatter
Flatter – Avie’s Empire, by Empire Maker
Bred in Ontario by Tall Oaks Farm
Queen’s Plate favorite Avie’s Flatter, Canada’s Sovereign Award champion 2-year-old male of 2018, has a pedigree replete with stamina on his side as he heads to the Canadian classics.
Flatter is one of the several successful sons of breed-shaping sire and stamina source A.P. Indy active at stud. He has sired Grade 1 winners at both sprint and route distances. His most successful runners include Eclipse Award champion 3-year-old male West Coast, who won or placed in six Grade 1/Group 1 races, including a powerful victory in the Travers Stakes at 1 1/4 miles, and Flat Out, whose six graded stakes scores included two editions of the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at the same classic distance.
The unraced Avie’s Empire, by Belmont Stakes winner Empire Maker, has produced two other stakes horses bred on the A.P. Indy sireline. Avie’s Mineshaft, by A.P. Indy’s champion son Mineshaft, won the Wonder Where Stakes, the final leg of the Canadian Triple Tiara, at 1 1/4 miles on turf. She had previously finished second by a neck in the middle leg, the Bison City Stakes, at 1 1/16 miles on synthetic.

Avie’s Flatter’s second dam, Fly For Avie, also won at up to 1 1/2 miles. Her career was highlighted by a victory in the Grade 1 E.P. Taylor Stakes at 1 1/4 miles. She is the dam of Avie’s Quality and Avie’s Tale, both stakes winners around two turns.
