Cooler Mike
Giant Gizmo–Executive Affair, by Bold Executive

Bred in Canada by Mike and Nick Nosowenko

Queen’s Plate hopeful Cooler Mike brings a proven classic sire line to the Canadian Triple Crown, balancing out a speed-oriented female family that is cause for concern ahead of the series.

Giant Gizmo, a son of the late Giant’s Causeway, has been among the leading sires in Canada for three consecutive years. He is the sire of graded stakes winners Amis Gizmo and Brooklynsway, both Canadian classic winners. Sovereign Award champion Amis Gizmo won the 2016 Prince of Wales, the second leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, after finishing second in the Queen’s Plate. Brooklynsway won the Bison City Stakes for fillies in 2015.

Giant’s Causeway has been a prominent sire in the Canadian classic series, led by his champion Irish Mission, who won the final leg of the 2012 Triple Crown, the Breeders’ Stakes at 1 1/2 miles, after winning the Woodbine Oaks and finishing second in the Queen’s Plate. He also sired 2007 Queen’s Plate winner Mike Fox; Aurora Way and Bowman’s Causeway, both runners-up in the Prince of Wales; and Mythical Mission, who placed in all three legs of Canada’s series for 3-year-old fillies.

Executive Affair, a half-sister to three stakes-placed winners, never won beyond 5 1/2 furlongs. She has been a consistent broodmare, with seven winners from eight starters, but Cooler Mike, stakes-placed last year, is her first black-type performer. Only two of the mare’s offspring have won at route distances – Rackman, whose maximum winning distance was 1 1/16 miles, and Cash for Life, who won at 1 1/8 miles.
