Stephen Constitution – Naughty Holiday, by Harlan’s Holiday Bred in Ontario by Trackwest Racing ($170,000 purchase by Al and Bill Ulwelling at 2020 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s spring sale of 2-year-olds in training)   Constitution sired an American classic winner from his first crop with Tiz the Law. He will go for an across-border score in his second crop with Coronation Futurity winner and Queen’s Plate hopeful Stephen. :: DRF BREEDING LIVE: Real-time coverage of breeding and sales Constitution, winner of the Florida Derby and Donn Handicap, made his early mark with Tiz the Law, who won the 2020 Belmont Stakes at 1 1/8 miles when it was held as the first leg of the pandemic-reconstituted Triple Crown. The colt’s other Grade 1 victories include the Travers Stakes at the classic 1 1/4-mile distance. While those victories all came on dirt, Constitution, by Tapit, has proven a versatile sire, which could be a useful attribute in the Canadian Triple Crown, which has legs on synthetic, dirt, and turf surfaces. Constitution is the sire of additional dirt graded stakes winners Amalfi Sunrise, By Your Side, Independence Hall, and Promise Keeper, and U.S. turf graded stakes winners Laura’s Light and Venezuelan Hug. Stephen’s Coronation Futurity victory came on Woodbine’s synthetic track. Naughty Holiday was a versatile runner in her own right, breaking her maiden at a mile on dirt, winning the OBS Championship Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on synthetic, and later winning an allowance at 1 1/16 miles on turf. She is from the family of graded stakes winner Naughty New Yorker, a millionaire who was also Grade 1-placed. – Nicole Russo
