Bred in Ontario by Huntington Stud Farm ($9,771 purchase by Joshua Attard at 2019 Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society Ontario division premier yearling sale)

Keep Grinding is a family affair for the Attard family, but should he deliver Queen’s Plate success, he would become the biggest standout for his own immediate pedigree, which is light on major accomplishment.

Tizway was a multiple Grade 1 winner a decade ago, taking the Metropolitan Handicap and Whitney Handicap. However, the stallion, now standing in Turkey, has only modest accomplishments at stud.

Of his 22 stakes winners, his two best runners have come overseas, with Gazi Derby winner and Turkish Horse of the Year The Last Romance and Venezuelan champion Gran Vanessa.

Samsal’s best effort came when she finished third in the My Dear Stakes sprinting on synthetic as a juvenile at Woodbine. The winner, Tu Endie Wei, went on to be a divisional Sovereign Award champion.

Samsal’s victories all came in claiming company. She is the dam of three winners from as many starters, with Keep Grinding, second in the Grade 3 Marine Stakes in July at Woodbine, her first stakes performer.

Out of stakes winner Willow Rush, Samsal is a half-sister to Grade 3-placed Stormy Rush. This is the family of graded stakes winner Reet Petite.
