Queen of Song registered a dominant victory in the $48,500 Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship, pulling away to win by five widening lengths on a muddy, sealed track. As Graceful Ginger led the field of four Maryland-bred 2-year-old fillies through fractions of 24.15 seconds, 48.75, and 1:14.30, Queen of Song sat tight under rider Jeremy Rose. The jockey asked for some run leaving the three-eighths pole and swung Queen of Song out wide entering the stretch. By midstretch, the two were clear of both the fading Graceful Ginger and the stalking Call of a Lion. Under a hand ride by Rose in the final going, Queen of Song easily pulled away for the win. Call of a Lion was a clear second, 6 1/4 lengths ahead of Graceful Ginger. The favored Prom Time was in contention only through the first turn and never threatened after that. Queen of Song ($6) finished about 1 1/16 miles in 1:47.44. A daughter of Unbridled's Song, she is trained by Mark Shuman.
