Queen of Arendell finds a home
The most popular horse at Santa Anita’s claim box last weekend was the maiden claimer Queen of Arendell. Queen of Arendell was claimed for $20,000 in a 19-way shake by trainer Richard Baltas on behalf of Taylor Made Farm of Kentucky after the sixth race on Saturday.
Queen of Arendell finished sixth of eight at 3-1.

The claim was made with the goal of retiring Queen of Arendell to be bred, Baltas said, but was not without a brief moment of drama. The claim was initially voided because Queen of Arendell was deemed to be unsound, but reinstated because Baltas had designated on the claim slip that he would accept the horse even under that condition.
“We wanted her as a mare,” Baltas said. “She’s safe and sound.”
Queen of Arendell, a 3-year-old by Frosted, is winless in three starts and was purchased for $180,000 at a 2-year-olds in training sale last year. She is out of Carolyn’s Cat, a three-time stakes winner who earned $307,415.
Queen of Arendell’s 4-year-old half-sister, Aunt Kat, is trained by Bill Mott in New York and has won two races this year. Aunt Kat, an Uncle Mo filly bought for $410,000 as a yearling in 2018, won a maiden special weight race at 6 1/2 furlongs by 9 3/4 lengths on March 13 at Aqueduct and an allowance race by 5 3/4 lengths on April 22 at Belmont Park.
