Quatre Cat dominates Ross McLeod Stakes
VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Quatre Cat scored a convincing 8 1/2 length win over Susan’s Day in the $50,000 Ross McLeod Stakes on Sunday at Hastings. She paid $15.60 as the fourth choice in the 6 1/2-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies that drew six horses.
With Ryan Pacheco aboard, Quatre Cat broke sharply and tracked the 4-5 favorite Finality’s Charm early. Quatre Cat engaged the leader at the three-eighths pole, started to assert control at the half-mile call, and was in complete control by the time she entered the stretch. Susan’s Day rallied to finish second with Splendid Scat also making a late move to get up for third.
Finality’s Charm tired to finish fifth.
Quatre Cat posted a quick final time of 1:16.88. She is trained by Sylvia Gregory.
Quatre Cat is owned by Gregory, her husband Dave, and Stuart and May Carmichael.
“Sylvia was very confident going into the race,” said Dave Gregory. “She told me she was going to win and go 1:16 and change.”
“I’m really happy for Ryan,” said Stuart Carmichael. “He just loves her and does everything with her. “
