Quadrilateral gets up to win Fillies Mile by a head at Newmarket
Quadrilateral won her stakes debut in Friday’s Group 1 Fillies Mile at Newmarket, England to become the future-book favorite for the Group 1 English 1000 Guineas at the same track in May.
Ridden by Jason Watson, his first Group 1 race, Quadrilateral rallied through the final quarter-mile to win by a head as the 9-4 favorite, edging 7-1 Powerful Breeze. Love, the winner of the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes in Ireland on Sept. 15, finished third, beaten 1 1/2 lengths in the field of nine.
Powerful Breeze closed from the back of the field to take the lead in the final furlong before she was caught by Quadrilateral. Powerful Breeze was beaten for the first time in her third start in the $692,690 Fillies’ Mile.
Love, trained by Aidan O’Brien, holds an automatic berth to the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf for her win in the Moyglare Stud Stakes.
Quadrilateral, by Frankel, races for Juddmonte Farms and trainer Roger Charlton. She has won three races, including a maiden race on Aug. 16 at Newbury and a condition race at that venue on Sept. 20.
