Pursuing Fate brings sharp form and love for track

Pursuing Fate is part of the year-round string maintained in south Florida by trainer Mike Maker – and for good reason. The Florida-bred filly not only can earn more purse money than she would elsewhere by virtue of statebred supplements, but she also happens to do her best work over the Gulfstream Park main track.
Fresh off a Jan. 27 victory that ran her career record to 3 for 5 at Gulfstream, Pursuing Fate looks like a major contender Thursday in a $46,000, second-level allowance carded as the ninth of 11 races.
Rated just off the pace in her last start, Pursuing Fate persisted down the stretch to prevail by a neck under Javier Castellano, who has the mount back for Thursday. They’ll break from post 3 in a field of seven fillies and mares entered in the 6 1/2-furlong race.
The feature is the second of two allowances on the card; the first is a $44,000, entry-level turf sprint carded as race 7. Both allowances are part of a Rainbow 6 sequence (races 6-11) that figures to offer a carryover of more than $2.7 million, assuming the jackpot isn’t swept Wednesday.
First post is 12:35 p.m. Eastern, with the Rainbow 6 starting at 3:05 and the feature at 4:35.
KEY CONTENDERS
Pursuing Fate, by In Summation
Last 3 Beyers: 82-54-71
◗ She did get a terrific trip in that last triumph, which resulted in a career-high Beyer Speed Figure, and it’ll be up to Castellano to try to work out another one as she takes the slight step up in class.
Fond of Sarah, by Into Mischief
Last 3 Beyers: 22-78-88
◗ One of two horses entered for an optional $62,500 claiming tag (with Winning for Sarah), she was overmatched against the likes of Stonetastic in a Feb. 14 overnight stakes and would do well to revert to her effort Jan. 8, when she led throughout in a 14-1 upset.
Sweet Success, by Candy Ride
Last 3 Beyers: 70-77-79
◗ Kentucky-bred who met some classy fillies last year at 3 will be making her first start in more than four months.
◗ She will be ridden by Julien Leparoux, who won a total of five races here Saturday and Sunday.
Lucky Switch, by Lookin At Lucky
Last 3 Beyers: 74-67-57
◗ GoldMark homebred was unable to threaten in the Sunshine Millions but has been regrouped with six works in the interim and would seem to fit well with this brand.
