Purses from Santa Anita, Los Alamitos to be redistributed
More than $175,000 in purses from 12 races run at Santa Anita and Los Alamitos from June 2 to July 4 were recently ordered redistributed by Santa Anita stewards for medication violations following rulings issued earlier this year by the Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit.
The horses involved including eight runners trained by Milton Pineda, three by Peter Miller, and one by Cesar DeAlba. The affected purses involved included eight winners, including seven trained by Pineda, two second-place finishers, a fourth-place runner and a seventh-place runner.
The medications involved were the banned substance diisopropylamine, a vasodilator; and the controlled substances dexamethasone, an anti-inflammatory; and acepromazine, a tranquilizer.
Pineda was suspended 12 years and fined $100,000 for eight infractions of having runners test positive for diisopropylamine.
The redistributions ranged in value from $24,480 for an acepromazine positive found in Anmer Hall following a win at Santa Anita on June 4 to $185 for a jockey fee for Armando Aguilar who rode Scary Fast Smile at Del Mar for DeAlba on Aug. 6. Scary Fast Smile tested positive for dexamethasone.
