Pure Gossip will be supplemented to Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf

Pure Gossip, emphatic winner of the Miss Grillo Stakes at Belmont on Oct. 2, will be supplemented to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf for a fee of $100,000, trainer Phil Serpe confirmed Tuesday morning.

Pure Gossip, a New York-bred daughter of Pure Prize, is owned by Flying Zee Stables, whose founder, Carl Lizza, died in July. Serpe said he believes that Viane Lizza, Carl’s widow, is doing what she feels Carl would have done.

“The day she won that race Carl would have been ready to go,’’ Serpe said. “I think that had a lot to do with it. Personally, I think you have to think you can do some good when you go to a race like that and we do.’’

On Tuesday, Pure Gossip worked five furlongs in 59.67 seconds over Belmont’s inner turf course under exercise rider Lisa Bartkowksi.

“That was a big work for a 2-year-old working by herself,’’ Serpe said.

Serpe said Pure Gossip would have one more breeze at Belmont before shipping to Churchill on Oct. 29.
