Proper Discretion repeats in Scarlet and Gray Handicap

Proper Discretion wired the field for a repeat win in the $75,000 Scarlet and Gray Handicap for Ohio-bred fillies and mares Saturday at Thistledown.
This was the fifth career stakes victory for Proper Discretion, who is trained by Anthony Rini for Loooch Racing Stables. She won last year's Scarlet and Gray after finishing second in the race in 2016.
Proper Discretion ($3.40) broke from the outside post in the field of five under Ricardo Feliciano for the six-furlong dirt sprint. She quickly cleared the field to lead by 1 1/2 lengths through the quarter in 22.22 seconds, and got her half in 45.22 seconds. She continued on well under left-handed urging to hit the wire a length in front, stopping the clock in 1:10.42.
Ali Blue, who raced in third throughout, overhauled Striking Lass, who had been stalking the pace, in the lane to finish second by 1 1/4 lengths. Striking Lass held third by a nose over La Nina Bronca, with Southern Mischief rounding out the order of finish.
