Proper Discretion puts on a show in Mackey Memorial-Angenora Stakes
Proper Discretion dominated the $75,000 Michael G. Mackey Memorial-Angenora Stakes for Ohio-bred fillies and mares on Saturday at Thistledown, dusting defending winner True Cinder by nine lengths.
This was the sixth career stakes win for Proper Discretion, a 6-year-old Discreetky Mine mare trained by Jeff Radosevich for Ron Paolucci. Saturday’s win pushed her earnings past the half-million mark to $543,491.
Proper Discretion ($2.40) and True Cinder both broke alertly, but jockey Scott Spieth called on Proper Discretion to shake off her rival early. The mare was clear before reaching the stretch of the six-furlong race and continued to widen her advantage, stopping the clock in 1:10.68.
True Cinder held second by a half-length over Ali Blue. My Belle Michelle was fourth and last; Southern Mischief scratched.
