Promising Fully Lent begins season in Supernaturel Stakes

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Fully Lent ran nothing but solid races as a 2-year-old filly last year but had the misfortune of having to deal with the sensational Infinite Patience, a legitimate contender for the $500,000 Woodbine Oaks on Aug. 15. The daughter of Lent will be facing significantly easier company when she makes her sophomore debut in the $40,000 Supernaturel for 3-year-old fillies Tuesday at Hastings.

The 6 1/2-furlong dash drew five horses and goes as the second of eight races. Post time for the first race is 2:30 p.m. Pacific.

Fully Lent showed a lot of promise when she finished third in her debut going 3 1/2 furlongs in a maiden special weight race last July 28. She came back to win a maiden special weight race going six furlongs before being the runner-up to Infinite Patience in the $50,000 CTHS Stakes and $100,000 Sadie Diamond Futurity.

Trainer Dave Forster is hoping for a sweep of the first two stakes at Hastings beginning Monday with the $40,000 Chris Loseth, where he will saddle likely favorite Capilano Canyon.

He likes the way Fully Lent is coming up to the Supernaturel.

“She’s been training well,” he said. “I breezed her a half-mile on Friday and caught her in 47 and change. I’m usually off a tick or two, but she worked great.”

The work is not officially listed due a decision by Hastings to only have clockers employed Saturday through Tuesday.

Fully Lent, who has been ridden exclusively ridden by Jose Asencio, was scratched out of an allowance race for older fillies and mares on July 7.

“She’s fine,” Forster said. “I wanted Jose to ride her, but I got spun by his agent. I feel sorry for Jose because he’s a great kid and a great jockey, but I had to change riders.”

Amadeo Perez picks up the mount.

Trainer Barbara Heads has two good shots with Sangria and Sophie Soleil.

Sangria had the benefit of running in the allowance race that Fully Lent was scratched from. The Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Bennett homebred daughter of Sungold was in tough facing older runners for the first time and did not make a big impact while finishing sixth. She figures to move forward in her second start back. In her previous outing, she won the $102,000 Freedom of the City at Century Downs.

Jose Gomez rides Sangria.

Sophie Soleil will be ridden by Efrain Hernandez. By Sungold, and also bred and owned by the Bennetts, she will be making her first start since she won a $50,000 optional maiden claimer on Oct. 13.

The Craig MacPerson-trained Floral could be dangerous as the main speed.
