Prom Date gets Tomball win via dq

Prom Date was named the winner of the $40,000 Tomball Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday night after winner Coastalota was disqualified interference in the stretch and placed second. Lady Mallory finished third in the Tomball.

Coastalota led throughout the mile and a sixteenth race for Texas-bred fillies and mares, covering the distance in 1:46.95. She finished a length and three-quarters clear of runner-up Prom Date.

Prom Date, who was ridden by Weldon Cloninger, Jr., paid $9.80. She is owned by Leland Cook and trained by Gerald Romero. Prom Date earned $24,000 for the win, which was her fourth from 14 starts. Her earnings now stand at $111,785.
