Projected foal crop for 2017 unchanged from 2016

The Jockey Club projects a 2017 North American registered foal crop of 22,500, marking no change from the projected foal crop of 2016.

Though unchanged from year to year, the 22,500 foals projected for the 2016 and 2017 foal crops mark a 2.3 percent increase from the 22,000 projected for the 2015 and 2014 foal crops.

The foal crop projection is computed by using the Reports of Mares Bred received to date for the 2016 breeding season, which are due Aug. 1 of each breeding season. Stallion owners who have not returned their RMBs for the most recent breeding season are encouraged to do so as soon as possible.

“As always, this projection is based on reports of mares bred received to date, and we estimate that approximately 80% of those reports have been received,” said Matt Iuliano, The Jockey Club’s executive vice president and executive director.
