Profound Moment, Citizen Kitty finish one-two in Washington Legislators

Profound Moment paid $6.00 for her two-length win over Citizen Kitty in the $50,000 Washington State Legislators at Emerald Downs on Sunday.

Seven fillies and mares competed in the 6 1/2-furlong dash, but it may as well have been a match race with Profound Moment and Citizen Kitty running one-two the whole way.

With Javier Matias aboard, Profound Moment broke alertly from the outside post and was never more than a half-length behind as Citizen Kitty got the jump on the field leaving the starting gate. Citizen Kitty held a head advantage after a half-mile in 45.21 seconds and the two raced as a team from the middle of the turn until the sixteenth pole, where Profound Moment exerted her authority. Citizen Kitty, who was sent off as a slight favorite over the winner, was game in defeat. Perhaps a Pie rallied to finish third.

The final time over a track rated fast was 1:14.90.

“She broke good and in the clear,” Matias said in a post-race interview from the winner’s circle. “I was thinking of using her early, but I waited, and here I am.”

It was the first stakes win for the 4-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Haynesfield who is owned by Mark Dedomenico and Muddy Waters Stables. She is trained by Michael Puhich.
