Professional Bull Riders honor Nafzger

Jay Privman|Oct 26, 2007
OCEANPORT, N.J. - Before he became a two-time winning trainer of the Kentucky Derby, Carl Nafzger was an accomplished professional bull rider. On Friday, Nafzger was announced by the Professional Bull Riders board of directors as a recipient of its "Ring of Honor." He will be honored Nov. 4 at the PBR world finals at the Thomas and Mack Center on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Nafzger was a three-time finalist (1963-65) in the National Finals Rodeo. He finished third overall in the 1963 season. Since turning to training racehorses in 1968, Nafzger has won the Derby in 1990 with Unbridled and this year with Street Sense, who was scheduled to make his final career start on Saturday at Monmouth Park in the Breeders' Cup Classic.
