Proclamation heads Sprint Cup
Acclaimed as one of Europe's best milers after his victory in the Sussex Stakes in July, Proclamation cuts back to six furlongs on Saturday for the $405,000, Group 1 Haydock Park Sprint Cup.
Trained by Jeremy Noseda, Proclamation was announced as a candidate for the Breeders' Cup Mile after his Group 1 Sussex triumph over Soviet Song at Goodwood.
The impressive winner of the seven-furlong Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot at York in June, the 3-year-old Proclamation is a late-running type possessed of great acceleration. He will have plenty of early speed to chase in the 17-runner Sprint Cup field. Frankie Dettori has the ride.
La Cucaracha looms a serious threat off her sharp score in the five-furlong Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York on Aug. 18, but in the topsy-turvy world of British sprinting, no upset would be too surprising.
