Private Prospect targets Breeders' Cup Juvenile

Private Prospect, who won his first three starts before finishing second by a nose in the Arlington-Washington Futurity, is an intended runner in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, trainer Mike Campbell said.
Campbell had considered aiming Private Prospect for the Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland but will train Private Prospect up to the BC Juvenile instead. Claimed for $50,000 out of his career debut, Private Prospect won his only two-turn start, the $100,000 Prairie Juvenile Mile, on Aug. 9, beating the subsequent Iroquois Stakes winner Lucky Player and the Arlington-Washington Futurity winner Recount despite bearing out sharply in deep stretch.
Campbell said he thinks he has a decent chance to make the 14-horse Juvenile field, and he will send Private Prospect – a quirky horse – out to Santa Anita during the second week of October if a spot in the race seems likely to materialize. If Private Prospect seems unlikely to make the Juvenile field, Campbell said he’ll aim for the $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot on Nov. 22.
Geroux serves suspension
Florent Geroux began serving a three-day careless-riding suspension Friday, making Thursday’s card the final day of a very successful Arlington meet for Geroux.
Geroux, a native of France, will finish second to James Graham in wins at this meet, but ranks first in purses earned with more than $2.4 million. His agent, Doug Bredar, said Geroux will ride at Keeneland in October and move on to Fair Grounds, where he wintered for the first time last season.
Stormy Wayllen tops feature
The closing day feature here Sunday is race 2, a first-level, two-turn turf allowance race for 2-year-olds. The Wayne Catalano-trained Stormy Wayllen, beaten a nose at this class level Sept. 5, is the horse to beat and races in blinkers for the first time. Last-out turf-route maiden winners In the Chamber and Always a Catch are the obvious opposition.
** Racing in Chicago resumes Friday at Hawthorne.
