Private Horde and Vito Corleone meet again at Prairie

Dave Basler|Jun 13, 2002

ALTOONA, Iowa - Private Horde and Vito Corleone are rematched in a field of six in the $60,000 Prairie Mile for 3-year-olds Saturday night at Prairie Meadows.

Private Horde and Vito Corleone finished one-two here in the $50,000 Golden Circle Stakes at six furlongs on April 27, with Private Horde scoring a four-length victory.

In his most recent start, Private Horde closed to finish second, beaten a neck, in a one-mile allowance at Mountaineer Park. Private Horde has won 3 of his 12 career starts for trainer Joe Cain. Alex Birzer has the call on Private Horde for owner-breeder Billy Tucker.

Vito Corleone shipped to Canterbury Park for trainer Ray Tracy after his second in the Golden Circle, and won the six-furlong St. Paul Stakes by three-quarters of a length on May 25. The Prairie Mile will be Vito Corleone's first try around two turns.

A gelded son of Memo, Vito Corleone has won 4 of his 11 starts and earned more than $129,000. Glenn Corbett has the mount.

Missme and White Flame both look to have a strong chance Saturday.

Missme enters off an entry level allowance victory at a mile over the Churchill Downs turf on May 27 for trainer Lynn Whiting. He finished second in the Northern Spur Stakes over the Oaklawn main track in April. Luis Quinonez will be in the saddle.

White Flame captured a two-other-than allowance at Gulfstream Park in January, prompting his connections to try him in the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby, in which he finished sixth, 15 lengths behind Repent. He was then given a six-week rest and has since finished second and fourth against allowance company at Churchill Downs. Ray Sibille will be in from Chicago to ride for trainer Niall O'Callaghan.

Iowa-breds Cowboy Stuff and Country Warrior, the one-two finishers here in the May 27 Gray's Lake Stakes for statebreds, complete the field.
