Princess Cadey turned the $100,000 Beyond the Wire Stakes at Laurel Park on Saturday into a one-horse affair, pulling away through the stretch to win the one-mile race for 3-year-old fillies by seven lengths. She has come a long way since trainer Claudio Gonzalez claimed her in December for $16,000 out of her eighth career start, a fifth-place effort in a maiden race. With Angel Cruz aboard, Princess Cadey was never far back after breaking from post 1. She joined the leaders, 8-5 favorite Naughty Thoughts and Miss Tap Dance, from the inside nearing the stretch and then sped off by herself. She was timed in 1:38.24. Princess Cadey was making her 13th career start. She is 3 for 5 since being claimed and finished second to Naughty Thoughts in the Wide Country. Her other wins came in a $25,000 maiden-claiming race and in a $16,000 optional-starter race. Nellie Morse: Arrifana outduels Horologist Arrifana and Horologist put on a terrific show in the stretch of the $100,000 Nellie Morse, with Arrifana putting her head down at the right time to win a nose decision in the one-mile race for fillies and mares. Arrifana, a 4-year-old daughter of Curlin trained by Kelly Rubley and ridden by Julian Pimentel, improved her record to 5 for 6 while making her first start since Nov. 29. She races for Gainesway Stable, LNJ Foxwoods, and Millennium Farms. Allowed to lag well back early, Arrifana moved up between horses on the far turn, caught Horologist in midstretch but couldn’t put her away. The pair battled to the wire and it took the photo-finish camera to separate them. “That other horse didn’t want to give up,” Pimentel said. Arrifana paid $3.20 while covering a mile in 1:35.95 Horologist ran honorably in easily her best showing since being sold to West Coast interests last September. She stalked the pace, took the lead entering the stretch, then fought doggedly with Arrifana to the wire. She is trained by Richard Baltas. Needs Supervision finished third in the seven-horse field, 9 1/2 lengths behind the top pair.
