Price looks right on Time for a Memory
A rapidly improving Time for a Memory looks like a reasonable play if she goes off anywhere near her 6-1 morning-line odds in a $20,000 claiming race for 3-year-old fillies that will serve as Friday’s feature at Northlands Park.
The 6 1/2-furlong sprint drew eight horses and goes as race 7 on an eight-race card that begins at 6:30 p.m. Mountain.
Space Junk has been installed as the 5-2 favorite, but she looks vulnerable in what appears to be a wide-open event.
Race 7
KEY CONTENDERS
Time for a Memory (Last 3 Beyers: 61-37-27)
◗ Trained by Tim Rycroft, this California-bred is coming off a sharp win going around three turns in a one-mile, $20,000 claiming race July 19.
◗ She has won three of her last four starts and easily owns the best last-race Beyer Speed Figure.
◗ In her previous race going 6 1/2 furlongs in a $12,000 claiming race for 3-year-old fillies July 5, she stalked the pace before drawing off to win by more than six lengths. She could get a similar trip with Chris Russell retaining the mount.
Space Junk (Last 3 Beyers: 37-24-74)
◗ The 74 Beyer she earned when she romped in a $12,000 claimer May 16 is easily the best in the field on dirt, but she regressed quite a bit in her next two starts.
◗ She has been freshened since she lost as the favorite in a similar race June 25.
◗ Formulator Fact: Trainer Greg Tracy has won with 26 percent of his starters coming back between 31 and 60 days.
Clocks a Ticken (Last 3 Beyers: 11-0-32)
◗ She ran off and hid by eight lengths when she dropped into a $12,000 maiden-claiming race in just her third start. As a half-sister to $109,155 earner and stakes-placed Millwright, she could have plenty of potential. She also was claimed by Twylla Bensmiller, who is winning races at a 26 percent clip at the meet.
◗ Formulator Fact: Since 2012, Bensmiller has a 30 percent strike rate with claimed horses running back the first time.
Saint Sassy Sue (Last 3 Beyers: 0-28-44)
◗ Trained by Amber Buniak, she will appreciate the easier company after being eased in the Northlands Oaks. The last time she ran in a sprint at this level, she won.
◗ Leading rider Rico Walcott will be aboard for the first time.
