Preview of coming attractions

PORTLAND, Ore. - The cream of the local 3-year-old crop will be on display in Saturday's one-mile allowance feature at Portland Meadows, which will serve as a prep for upcoming stakes.

The field of seven includes Oregon Futurity winner Glad to Be Here, Columbia River Stakes winner Stately Jack Flash, and Bill Wineberg Stakes winner Yada Yada Yada.

Stately Jack Flash and Yada Yada Yada chased Glad to Be Here home in the one-mile Futurity on Dec. 14, finishing second and third, respectively. Stately Jack Flash and Yada Yada Yada clashed again in a six-furlong allowance race on Jan. 11, when Stately Jack Flash outfinished a slow-starting Yada Yada Yada by 1 1/2 lengths.

Glad to Be Here hasn't been out since his Futurity triumph. The Futurity was Glad to Be Here's first attempt at a mile, and he remains the only horse in Saturday's field to own a victory around two turns.

Adding spice to Saturday's field are Cee Cruiser and La Center, both impressive maiden winners who finished a nose apart in third and fourth behind Stately Jack Flash and Yada Yada Yada in the allowance sprint on Jan. 4. Both were beaten three lengths in that race.

Also of interest is French Season, who is coming off a pair of front-running wins over $12,500 maidens and $10,000 winners. French Season draws inside Lacenter Flash and Cee Cruiser, who also have good speed, and may be Saturday's pacesetters.

Rounding out the field is Jitterbug, who won at six furlongs in his debut on Dec. 15 before finishing a close third to French Season at 5 1/2 furlongs two weeks ago.
