Prettypriceygirl outruns highly regarded stablemates in Czaria

Coady Photography Prettypriceygirl pays $33 for her win in the Czaria Handicap with jockey Isaias Enriquez.

Prettypriceygirl, by far the most lightly regarded of three uncoupled horses saddled by Justin Evans, surged in the stretch to upset Saturday’s $50,000 Czaria Handicap for fillies and mares at Sunland Park.

Sent off as the second longest price in the seven-horse field at 15-1, Prettypriceygirl ($33) was never in contention until late in the six-furlong race. She came flying under Isaias Enriquez, making up 4 1/2 lengths in the final furlong, to defeat Bright Town by three-quarters of a length. African Rose was third as the 6-5 favorite for Evans, whose third entrant, 5-2 second choice Belleofthebeach, checked in fourth. The winning time was 1:109.47.

The 6-year-old Prettypriceygirl was the beaten favorite in the one-mile Harry Henson Handicap in her Sunland debut. She had primarily been racing two turns in Southern California. Saturday’s race marked her first start in a dirt sprint since she won her maiden at Santa Anita in January 2013.
