Pretty N Cool among six for Matron

ELMONT, N.Y. – Pretty N Cool, the runner-up to Songbird in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante, drew post 5 in a six-horse field for Sunday’s Grade 2, $200,000 Matron Stakes at Belmont. The race is for 2-year-old fillies at six furlongs.
Pretty N Cool, a daughter of Scat Daddy owned by Karl Watson, Mike Pegram, and Paul Weitman, won her first two starts, including the Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes at Del Mar, before finishing 5 1/4 lengths behind Songbird in the Del Mar Debutante. Songbird came back to win the Grade 1 Chandelier and is the likely favorite for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.
Pretty N Cool will be ridden by Martin Garcia.
Her challengers include Constellation, third in the Grade 1 Spinaway; Libreta, a 6 1/2-length maiden winner earlier in the meet; and Island Saint, Tonasah, and Wave of Glory.
The Matron will go as race 4 (2:34 p.m. Eastern) on the 10-race program.
