Pretty Mischievous scratches from Distaff, will get freshening before next year

ARCADIA, Calif. — Pretty Mischievous, the leading 3-year-old filly in the country, has been scratched from Saturday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Distaff, trainer Brendan Walsh said Friday morning.
Walsh said Pretty Mischievous had a slight touch of colic when she first arrived from Kentucky at the beginning of the week. He said Pretty Mischievous was “dull” in her training.
“She was fine training, she just wasn’t showing the spark like she normally shows,” Walsh said. “She needed to be coming into this race 200 percent, not with any doubt in your mind. Last thing I wanted to do is run her and have her finish up the track, so we’ll just regroup.”
Pretty Mischievous, a daughter of Into Mischief owned and bred by Godolphin Racing, won 4 of 6 starts in 2023. She won the Kentucky Oaks and Acorn - both Grade 1 stakes. She was going to finish second to Maple Leaf Mel in the Grade 1 Test at Saratoga before that filly suffered a fatal injury just yards from the wire. Pretty Mischievous finished a head in front of Clearly Unhinged in that race.
In her most recent start, the Grade 1 Cotillion at Parx on Sept. 23, Pretty Mischievous finished second, beaten a half-length by Ceiling Crusher.
“She had a long year,” Walsh said. “We’ll take her back home and freshen her up and hopefully she’ll have a bang-up year next year.”
The scratch of Pretty Mischievous reduces the field for the Distaff to 10.
