Presque Isle: Statebred 3-year-olds go long in stakes

John McDulin|Aug 10, 2011

A pair of $75,000 Pennstlvania bred 3-year-old stakes highlight the Friday evening card at Presque Isle Downs. Both the Malvern Rose for fillies and the Lil E. Tee for males will be run at 1 1/16 miles.

Trade Secret will try two turns for the first time in his career when he faces seven others in the Lil E. Tee. Trained by Anthony Dutrow, Trade Secret will be looking for his second win of the season after winning the Peppy Addy at Parx July 2. The Peppy Addy was a seven-furlong statebred event. In his last out July 26, Trade Secret finished third, beaten three lengths, against older open company in a Parx allowance event. Scott Spieth will ride for the first time.

Motion to Appeal will be looking for his fourth straight win and is the only Lil E. Tee entrant to have won at two turns. Trained by Michael Ferraro, Motion to Appeal won a maiden race June 30 and then a first-level allowance event July 15 over the Presque Isle Tapeta surface. In his last out Aug. 1 at Finger Lakes, Motion to Appeal won a second-level allowance race by a nose against older horses as the favorite. Willie Martinez will ride again.

Kyma will try to remain perfect after winning his first two outings. He won a maiden race June 28 against older horses at five furlongs on turf and an open allowance July 29. Scott Spieth retains the mount.

Interrogate breaks from the inside post in the field of 10 3-year-old fillies in the Malvern Rose. This is the first time around two turns for Interrogate, a daughter of Posse.

She finished second to It’s Me Mom twice last season, including in the Presque Isle Debutante. In her most recent out, Interrogate won a first-level statebred allowance by 3 1/4 lengths. Previously, Interrogate finished second by a nose in a first-level allowance race against older fillies and mares. Both race were going six furlongs.

Trainer Ferraro and jockey Martinez will again be teaming up with Interrogate, and they have won at a 43 percent rate together the last two seasons.

Others in the Malvern Rose field are Passion Point, Arcina, Sweetjudyblue Eyes, Prize Winner, Lenape Run, Dopke Gal, Military Wife, Coco’s Sweetie, and Golden Express.
