Presidential problems at River Downs?

Marty McGee|Sep 05, 2009

President Barack Obama is scheduled to speak Monday in Cincinnati at an AFL-CIO picnic at the Coney Island amusement park at about 1:30 p.m. Eastern, causing potential headaches for racing fans hoping for easy access to River Downs.

Coney Island is adjacent to River Downs on the northern shore of the Ohio River, and track officials are warning patrons that local roads could be blocked off for substantial lengths of time anywhere from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Obama is scheduled to land by helicopter on soccer fields just to the east of River Downs, then motorcade down Kellogg Ave. to Coney Island.

With the Cradle Stakes as the featured event, Monday is the biggest day of live racing of the year at River Downs. Post time for the Cradle is 5:20 p.m.
