Premium Win euthanized at 25

Glenye Cain Oakford|Jan 08, 2007

Premium Win, the dam of 1991 turf champion Tight Spot and Grade 1 winner Valiant Nature, died Nov. 17 after complications from colic.

A stakes-winning Lyphard mare, she was 25 and had been pensioned.

David Fiske, manager of the Verne Winchell family's Corinthia Farm near Lexington, Ky., said the mare had been taken to Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, where it had been determined "she was not a very good surgery candidate."

Fiske said the mare was euthanized at the farm and was buried next to the graves of her dam, Classic Perfection, and of Darien Miss, the dam of Grade 1 winner Fleet Renee.

Premium Win was Group 3-placed in France before shipping to the United States. She is the second dam of Grade 1 winner Premium Tap.
