Premier Pick 4 pays $1,531

There were 278 winning $1 tickets, worth $1,531.40 each, sold Saturday on the Premier Pick 4, the national pick 4 wager that combined two stakes from both Keeneland and Oaklawn Park.

Total handle on the Premier Pick 4 was $684,292. The winning numbers of 8-2-7-4 resulted from the following races: Gasia ($10) in the Instant Racing, Sun King ($16.40) in the Commonwealth Breeders' Cup, Sinister Minister ($19.40) in the Blue Grass Stakes, and Lawyer Ron ($3) in the Arkansas Derby.

Last year, the first for the Premier Pick 4, the handle was $726,194. The winning $1 combination was $1,266.40.

For years, the Blue Grass and Arkansas Derby had been part of what was known as the Big 3 Pick 3, with the Wood Memorial being the leadoff race. But last year the Wood was moved from its traditional date of three weeks before the Kentucky Derby to four weeks beforehand.
