Premier Night tops stakes calendar at Delta

Delta Downs in Vinton, La., has announced it stakes schedule for the upcoming Thoroughbred meet, and the headliner will again be the $895,000 Louisiana Premier Night card on Feb. 8.

Delta opens Oct. 8 and races through Feb. 29.

There are 26 stakes scheduled for the meet, with those races worth a cumulative $2.2 million.

Louisiana Premier Night will be the season’s richest card, featuring six divisional stakes for Louisiana-breds. The main event is the $150,000 Championship, a 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds and up.

The meet’s top open-company stakes include the $100,000 Delta Mile for 3-year-olds and up on Nov. 16, the $100,000 My Trusty Cat for 2-year-old fillies at a mile on Nov. 22, and the $100,000 Jean Lafitte for 2-year-olds at a mile on Nov. 23.
