ELMONT, N.Y. - On the morning after he confirmed Risk Taking would join Crowded Trade in the starting gate for next Saturday’s $1 million Preakness Stakes at Pimlico, trainer Chad Brown put the two together Saturday morning at Belmont Park for their final serious workout before the race. With Crowded Trade on the inside of Risk Taking, the pair went five furlongs in 1:01.66 over the Belmont main track. The two crawled away from the five-eighths pole, going their opening eighth in 13.76 seconds. They picked it up around the turn and went a quarter in 25.69, three furlongs in 36.94 and got their last quarter in 24.72 seconds. They galloped out six furlongs in 1:14.66 with Crowded Trade going out slightly better. “I thought they breezed super,” Brown said. “[Crowded Trade] may have been a head in front, but the other guy was [under] a hold. He didn’t want to smother that horse near the wire because Crowded Trade gets a little strong on the inside.” :: Join DRF Bets and get ready to watch and wager on the Preakness with a $250 first deposit bonus  Crowded Trade finished third and Risk Taking was seventh in the Grade 2 Wood Memorial at Aqueduct on April 3 at Aqueduct. Crowded Trade didn’t break well in the Wood and “he lost position early,” Brown said. “Hopefully he gets out of the gate better this time,” Brown added. Prior to the Wood, Crowded Trade won a maiden race in January and was beaten a nose when second in the Grade 3 Gotham, giving him the exact form coming into the Preakness as Cloud Computing, who won the Preakness for Brown and owner Seth Klarman in 2017. Brown said he was confident that Cloud Computing would get the 1 3/16 miles of the Preakness. He said he’s “guarded” in his optimism that Crowded Trade wants to go that far. “I don’t want to undersell him,” Brown said. “In his development he’s been behind a little bit and he’s catching up fast. He’s only run three times, he ran three really creditable races. He’s going in the right direction, he’s got six weeks between races, I could see this horse running a really big race on Saturday.” Brown scratched Risk Taking from Saturday’s Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont to run in the Preakness. Risk Taking had won a pair of two-turn, 1 1/8-mile races including the Grade 3 Withers before his disappointing effort in the Wood. Brown believes Risk Taking resented the heavy dirt that hit him in the face in the Wood Memorial, which ultimately led to one of his eyes being swollen. “He really resented it, I’m hoping that’s why he ran uncharacteristically poor,” Brown said. Brown plans to van both horses to Baltimore on Tuesday. Unbridled Honor works Also working for the Preakness on Saturday at Belmont Park was Unbridled Honor, who went a half-mile in 48.85 seconds in company with the older graded stakes winner Fearless over the training track. Unbridled Honor, on the inside, and Fearless went in fractions of 13.45 seconds, 25.85, and got their last quarter in 24.00 with Fearless a neck in front at the wire. Fearless, who is pointing to Friday’s Pimlico Special, was also a bit stronger on the gallop out, opening up by two lengths in 1:02.55 and six furlongs in 1:14.99. :: Get Daily Racing Form past performances, featuring exclusive Beyer Speed Figures - the gold standard in horse racing  “I thought he galloped out a little stronger last week at Churchill,” trainer Todd Pletcher said of Unbridled Honor. “But you’re taking a graded-stakes-winning older horse who seemed to work really well this morning, so I wouldn’t be too critical of the last part of it.” Unbridled Honor is coming out of a second-place finish behind King Fury in the Lexington Stakes at Keeneland on April 10.
