Prat to hit the road during most of Los Alamitos meet

Barbara D. Livingston Flavien Prat rides favored Paradise Woods, one of the horses that helped him win the recently concluded Santa Anita winter/spring meet, in Friday's Kentucky Oaks.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Flavien Prat was the leading rider at the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting this year and led the standings for the spring-summer meeting going into Friday’s program.

Prat may very well win the title at the meeting, which ends on Tuesday, but he will have little impact on the two-week Los Alamitos summer meeting, which begins on Thursday.

Prat plans to ride at Belmont Park next weekend and is likely to be at Indiana Grand on July 15, according to his agent, Derek Lawson. Prat is unlikely to ride any weekday programs at Los Alamitos before the meeting ends on July 16.

Prat will be at Del Mar for the opening day of the summer meeting on July 19, Lawson said.

At Belmont Park, Prat is scheduled to ride Big Score in the Grade 1 Belmont Derby and Beau Recall in the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks next Saturday and American Gal in the Grade 3 Victory Ride Stakes next Sunday, Lawson said.

Going into Friday’s program, Prat had 35 wins at the meeting, one more than apprentice jockey Evin Roman. Joe Talamo was third with 32 wins, closely followed by Rafael Bejarano with 31.

Bejarano also will have a limited presence at Los Alamitos, according to his agent, Tora Yamaguchi.

“We’ll ride here and there,” Yamaguchi said. “We’ll be getting ready for Del Mar.”
