ALTOONA, Iowa – The undefeated filly Ginger Added appears to hold the best cards heading into Saturday night’s $60,000 Iowa Stallion Stakes at Prairie Meadows. Although she is 4 for 4, Ginger Added will be stretching out around two turns for the first time in the mile-and-70-yard race,The 3-year-old Ginger Added has rated kindly and cruised to victory in all three of her 2011 sprint efforts locally. Her May 21 score in the Bob Bryant Stakes was particularly impressive when she kicked past the highly-regarded Someplace Else to take the six furlong race by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:09.96. In her most recent try, Ginger Added defeated male competition for the first time by the Iowa Legacy Stakes by 5 1/4 lengths as the 1-10 favorite.“Before we got her as a yearling, her pedigree caught my eye as she’s out of that good old mare of T.V. Smith’s, G.U. Ginger,” said trainer Dick Clark. “She certainly has worked out well.” Ginger Added will again be ridden by Glenn Corbett, who has five stakes wins locally this season.Leading trainer Chris Richard, whose stable is 51 for 131 locally this year, including 11 for 23 in route races, sends out Launch Light Lady for leading owner Maggi Moss, the Minnesota-bred filly Smarty Prance, and the Iowa-bred filly Miss Adventure.Of the trio, Launch Light Lady appears to hold the best chance of an upset. Moss, who is 29 for 72 at Prairie Meadows this season, acquired Launch Light Lady after a stellar 2-year-old campaign under Kelly Von Hemel’s tutelage which included an impressive tally in last July’s Iowa Stallion Futurity. She will have to improve significantly to turn the tables on Ginger Added while making her first start around two turns. The capable filly Lucky Daz, trained by Kelly Von Hemel, Oklahoma-bred filly Immaculate Dream, and the maiden gelding Run Doug Run round out the field.
