Prairie Meadows: McPeek's consolation

Dave Basler|May 20, 2002

ALTOONA, Iowa - Ken McPeek's main objective Saturday was to win the Preakness, but he fell three lengths short with Harlan's Holiday, who finished fourth. Still, McPeek got some consolation Saturday night, when another of the horses he trains, the rapidly improving Minister's Baby, won the $50,000 Diamond Trail Stakes at Prairie Meadows by 7 1/4 lengths.

Minister's Baby ($3.80) stalked a pace duel between Bold Bluff and Delray Dew, who ripped off a half-mile in 45.15 seconds. Minister's Baby cruised up to challenge that pair three wide on the second turn, took command in the lane, and widened to the wire.
