ALTOONA, Iowa - On a day that began ominously for jockey Israel Ocampo, he was able to cap off a Saturday evening double with a victory above 21-1 longshot American Sugar in the $75,000 Prairie Gold Lassie Stakes.

Dislodged from his morning's first worker at 6:20 a.m., Ocampo lay still underneath the rail for several minutes until walking off unscathed.

American Sugar, the most promising local hope in a field of seven 2-year-old fillies, seized command in the Lassie with a quick burst on the turn and pulled away in the stretch. Ocampo, sitting chilly, took in her in hand late to register a two-length win over the rallying 1-2 favorite Quiet Success. A Lynn Chleborad-trained daughter of Harlan's Holiday, American Sugar covered the 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:05.20 and paid $44.

Amderican Sugar collected $45,000 for her owner, Poindexter Thoroughbreds LLC, and is scheduled to head south to Remington Park when the bulk of Chleborad's stable ships there in August.

Prairie Gold Juvenile: Mr. Jawbreaker wires field

After an eventful start that caused difficulty for the majority of the seven colts and geldings in the field, the $75,000 Prairie Gold Juvenile went to the pacesetter Mr. Jawbreaker who first fended off third p-lace finisher He's a Rockstar, then held fast-closing Mylute safe for a neck victory.

Mr. Jawbreaker ($15.80), ridden by David Mello for trainer Chris Richard, broke sharpest and avoided the trouble caused by Senor Captain's left-handed swerve soon after the start.

Mr. Jawbreaker, an Ontario-bred Candy Ride gelding, proved tenacious after dueling with 2-1 favorite He's a Rockstar through fractions of 22.29 and 45.65 in the 5 1/2 furlong sprint. He stopped the clock in 1:05.39.

Mr. Jawbreaker earned $45,000 for owner-breeder River Ridge Ranch, and ran his record to 2 for 3 with his second win in a row at Prairie Meadows.
