Prado picks up pair of seconds in Gulfstream stakes

Jockey Edgar Prado had to settle for second-best behind a pair of heavy favorites in the two stakes he rode Saturday at Gulfstream Park.
Prado, 46, riding for the first time since he sustained a neck injury in a training accident at Keeneland a month ago, brought the 3-year-old filly Marnesia Wild Heir from last of 11 to outfinish Florida Sun by a neck in the $90,000 Honey Ryder at 1 1/16 miles on turf.
Daring Kathy ($3.60) won her second straight start since switching to turf by 3 3/4 lengths under Abdiel Jaen. She completed the distance on firm ground in 1:41.05. Daring Kathy is a daughter of Wildcat Heir trained by David Fawkes for John Eaton and Steve Laymon.
In the co-featured $90,000 Big Drama for older sprinters, Prado and 2-1 second choice Risk Factor could not catch front-running Dad’z Laugh ($5.40), who scored by 2 3/4 lengths after 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.45.
The 4-year-old Dad’z Laugh, ridden by Elvis Trujillo for trainer Dubis Chaparro and owner A Blanco Holding, ended a string of four straight runner-up finishes by winning for the first time since January at Calder.
Prado’s third mount, the maiden What’s Up Guy, finished last of seven as the 6-5 favorite in a maiden race.
Prado is named on two mounts Sunday at Gulfstream, both for trainer Peter Walder He is then scheduled to return to New York, where he has one mount on Wednesday and Thursday at Belmont Park.
