DEL MAR, Calif. - Practical Move, unraced since a win in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby in April, recently resumed training at Del Mar, trainer Tim Yakteen said over the weekend.
Practical Move was scratched from the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs two days before the May 6 race because of illness and remained in Kentucky for several weeks before returning to California.
Yakteen said no race goals have been finalized for Practical Move, who has yet to have a workout this summer through Sunday.
“We don’t have anything etched in stone,” Yakteen said. “We’ll start doing more in a couple of weeks.”
Owned by Pierre and Leslie Amestoy and Roger Beasley, Practical Move has won 4 of 7 starts and earned $884,200.
Practical Move won the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita in March, finishing 2 1/2 lengths in front of Geaux Rocket Ride. On Saturday, Geaux Rocket Ride won the Grade 1 Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park.
Practical Move is one of three 3-year-old stakes winners trained by Yakteen this year.
Kangaroo Court, the winner of the Echo Eddie Stakes for statebred sprinters at Santa Anita in April, is bound for the $175,000 Real Good Deal Stakes for statebred 3-year-olds at seven furlongs at Del Mar on Aug. 4.
On Friday, Kangaroo Court worked five furlongs in 59.20 seconds.
Johannes, who won consecutive turf stakes for 3-year-olds at Santa Anita in March and April, is currently turned out for an expected return to training in autumn, Yakteen said.
Johannes was fifth by two lengths in the Grade 2 American Turf Classic at Churchill Downs on May 6.
