Practical Move eyeing Rebel, San Felipe for comeback race

ARCADIA, Calif. – Practical Move, winner of the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity on Dec. 17, is under consideration for one of two Grade 2 stakes at 1 1/16 miles later this winter, trainer Tim Yakteen said Sunday.
Races such as the $1 million Rebel Stakes on Feb. 25 at Oaklawn Park and the $400,000 San Felipe Stakes on March 4 at Santa Anita are possibilities for Practical Move’s 3-year-old debut, Yakteen said.
“We have a lot of options,” he said.
If Practical Move starts in one of those races, the colt is likely to have a second and final prep for the Kentucky Derby in early April. The Kentucky Derby is May 6.
Owned by Pierre and Leslie Amestoy and Roger Beasley, Practical Move worked a sharp half-mile in 47.80 seconds on Saturday at Santa Anita. Practical Move, by Practical Joke, has won 2 of 5 starts and earned $194,200.
In the Los Alamitos Futurity at 1 1/16 miles, Practical Move closed from third in a field of five to win by 3 1/4 lengths.
Yakteen said Practical Move has grown in the last five weeks.
“He’s put on weight as he’s matured,” Yakteen said.
