Debra A. Roma Grade 1 winner Practical Joke will race in the Cigar Mile Dec. 2 at Aqueduct before retiring to stud.

Grade 1 winner and young sire Practical Joke was represented by the top two lots of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga fall selected mixed sale on Tuesday, as a weanling colt and filly from his first crop sold for $160,000 and $150,000, respectively.

Fasig-Tipton reported 134 horses sold for revenues of $3,384,700 during Tuesday's single-session sale at its Humphrey S. Finney Pavilion in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., about a block away from Saratoga Race Course. The 2018 edition of the sale finished with 115 horses sold for a gross of $3,381,200. Tuesday's average price finished at $25,259 and the median was $15,000. Those were declines of 14 percent and 25 percent, respectively, from figures of $29,402 and $20,000 in 2018. The buyback rate was 38 percent, compared to 32 percent last year.

Practical Joke was a multiple Grade 1 winner during his racing career, taking the Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga and Champagne Stakes at Belmont as a juvenile, then winning the H. Allen Jerkens at Saratoga the following season. The son of leading sire Into Mischief is now based at Coolmore's Ashford Stud in Kentucky.

Steven Weston purchased his sale-leading colt on Tuesday from the consignment of RFHF Bloodstock, as agent.

The New York-bred colt is out of the placed Running Stag mare Singing Doe, dam of three winners from four starters, led by multiple Grade 3-placed stakes winner Pain and Misery. Singing Doe is a half sister to Grade 1-placed stakes winner Awesome I Am. Graded stakes winner Distinct Habit is their granddam.

Later in the sale, Exclusive Equine Investments went to $150,000 for a Practical Joke filly, also a New York-bred, from the consignment of The New Hill Farm.

The filly is out of the Lemon Drop Kid mare Unicorn Kid, whose four winners from six starters are led by Pure Lemon, who was champion imported older mare in Puerto Rico, and stakes winner Crafty Unicorn. Graded stakes winners Now Listen and Quintana appear on the catalog page.
