Powerfully ran to his name Saturday night at Evangeline Downs as he kicked strongly clear to capture the colt and gelding division of the $100,000 John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes by 5 3/4 lengths. All Star Colton, dismissed at odds of 47-1, ran a surprising second, 1 1/4 lengths in front Smellinsmoke. Trained by Steve Asmussen, Powerfully ($5.40) is owned and was bred by Asmussen’s father, Keith. The winner was ridden by Gerard Melancon, who completed a rare stakes double after booting home Fort Hood in the $50,000 earlier in the day at Louisiana Downs.
