Power of Snunner rallies to narrow score in Foxy J. G. Stakes

Jim Dunleavy|Apr 28, 2018
Power of Snunner (No. 4) wins the 2018 Foxy J.G. Stakes
Barbara Weidl/Equi-Photo Power of Snunner (#4) nailed Trace of Grace at the wire in Saturday's Foxy J.G. Stakes.

Although the seven-furlong Foxy J. G. Stakes may be a little short for Power of Snunner at this point in her career, she got the job done Saturday at Parx Racing, rallying down the middle of the track to nail Trace of Grace on the wire by a neck.

Saturday's Foxy J. G. victory was the second in the race for Power of Snunner. She also won it in 2015. Her other two stakes scores came last year in the 1 1/8-mile Obeah at Delaware Park and the 1 1/16-mile Plum Pretty at Parx.

Power of Snunner, an 8-year-old daughter of Power By Far, is owned by her breeder, James Courtney. She is now 10 for 35 with earnings of more than $600,000.

Trace of Grace did everything but win the Foxy J. G. She moved up to challenge for the early lead between horses, put away pace rival Disco Rose on the stretch turn, drew clear, then just failed to last. Formal Class finished third.

Power of Snunner raced in last position early. She commenced her bid on the far turn under jockey Dana Whitney, and was fanned very wide into the stretch.

Both Power of Snunner, who is trained by Timothy Kreiser, and Trace of Grace who is conditioned by Bernie Houghton, are stabled at Penn National.

Power of Snunner paid $4.20 to win as the favorite in the field of eight Pennsylvania-bred mares. She was timed in 1:25.32, and got a 76 Beyer Speed Figure.
