Power outage causes delay at Keeneland
The massive Saturday card of Keeneland's fall meet, with five graded stakes, including three Grade 1 events, was delayed slightly due to a massive power outage caused by a problem with a transformer in the area.
Power went out at Keeneland at about 10:30 a.m. Eastern; power was also out at the adjacent Bluegrass Airport, and traffic lights were out at Keeneland's entrance gates. Power came back on at the track moments before noon.
The first post for Keeneland's 10-race card had been scheduled for 1:05 p.m. but was pushed back to 1:40 p.m. A national broadcast from Keeneland was scheduled to begin on NBC at 5 p.m. The network will now air the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes and Grade 1 Breeders' Futurity instead of the Breeders' Futurity and Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile, as originally planned.
