Power Corrupt captures Jack Diamond Futurity

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Power Corrupt paid $16.50 for his 2 1/2-length win over the previously undefeated Stanz in Command in the $100,000 Jack Diamond Futurity Sunday at Hastings.
With Jeff Burningham aboard, Power Corrupt broke sharply, forced the pace from the outside of Sol Cat before taking command in midstretch in the 6 1/2-furlong dash for 2-year-old colts and geldings. Stanz in Command came from a stalking position but never looked like he was going to catch the winner. Groot came from well back to finish third.
The final time over a track rated sloppy was 1:18.39.
“He felt great running over the surface and I had a lot of horse under me the whole way,” said Burningham.
Power Corrupt is trained by Mike Anderson and owned by his breeder, Doug Clyde.
Heavily favored C U At Eau Claire held off a determined bid by Snuggles to win the $100,000 Sadie Diamond Futurity by a neck. She paid $4.50.
Breaking alertly with Richard Hamel riding, she was under pressure from Princess Katie while carving out fractions of 22.04 and 45.39 seconds over the sloppy track. She took a 2 1/2-length lead into the stretch and was all out to win the 6 1/2-furlong sprint for 2-year-old fillies.
“I didn’t really want her to be in front,” said Hamel. “But after she broke sharply I didn’t want to take her back and get stuck behind horses.”
The final time was 1:18.30.
C U At Eau Claire is trained by Greg Tracy and owned by Don B. Danard. She went into the race off of wins in the British Columbia Cup Debutante and Hard Rock Casino.
Danard won’t be able to collect the $55,000 C U At Eau Claire earned until issues regarding the eligibility of her being in the race are resolved. Her name didn’t show up on the final nomination list, and initially the stewards weren’t going to let her to run. However, following an appeal and a subsequent hearing, she was allowed to race.
Other trainers in the race have protested the decision.
